Samuel Casalenda Jr.
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather
Age 91, of St Paul, MN. Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on November 12, 2023. He was born in St. Paul on June 3, 1932, to parents Sam Casalenda Sr. and Helen (née Perrault) Casalenda. He attended Monroe High School and was a graduate of the class of 1950. He went on to work at Northern States Power Company where he was a faithful employee for 43 years before retiring in 1996.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Sr. and Helen; Siblings, Walter (Blackie), Violet Huber, Laurie Kane; and son in law, Dean Musch.
He is survived by the love of his life, Margaret - his loving wife and best friend of 72 years; and their five children, Deb Musch, Rick “Sammy” (Cindy) Casalenda, Karen Casalenda, Ron (Deb) Casalenda, and Steve (Jeannie) Casalenda; Grandchildren, Lori and Jeff Musch, Corbin Casalenda, Justin (Kathleen) Steffans, Ashley (Chris) Schoening, Sam (Becky) Casalenda, Gina Casalenda, and Anna Casalenda; Great Grandchildren, Leonardo “Leo” and Giovanna “Gi Gi” Casalenda, Kelsey, Braden and Jackson Steffans; Great-Great Grandchild, Cain Steffans; brothers, Michael “Mick”, Joe, Dick; and Sister Gloria Azzone, along with countless nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Sam’s family was the most important thing in the world to him. He was one of kind with a selfless, kind, and loving heart who always put others needs first. He was known lovingly by many as “Sam the popcorn man” for his countless trips to deliver his famous popcorn to family, friends, doctors, and hospitals. He was a proud and longtime member of the St. Anthony Society and The St. Francis Casinos.
The family would like to thank all members of Sam’s care team and extend an extra heartfelt thank you to Lori his aid and “special friend” from St Croix Hospice.
Visitation 4-8pm, Tuesday, November 28, with a Rosary Service at 6:30pm at O’Halloran & Murphy Funeral Home, 575 South Snelling Ave. St Paul, MN. Mass of Christian Burial 11am with visitation one hour prior on Wednesday, November 29, at St Stanislaus Catholic Church, 398 W Superior St., St. Paul, MN. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery immediately following the church service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to family to be distributed to their charity of choice.
