John Mathew Ness

John M. Ness of Woodbury, Minnesota, age 90, died Friday, May 13, 2022, preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Florence, his daughter Julia Rae, and his brothers Marshall and Dwayne.

Born in Minneapolis, John graduated from Washburn High School in 1949. John continued his studies at the University of Minnesota, joining the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and graduating in 1953 with a degree in Pharmacy and a ROTC commission. He entered the U. S. Army for two years where he trained in Colorado Springs and served a tour in Iceland. After active duty, he served in the U. S. Army Reserve, 5501st U. S. Army Hospital, from 1955 to 1981, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. For 25 years he also ran the Airport Pharmacy, his family’s business.

In 1959 John married Jacqueline R. Emery. They lived in Bloomington, Minnesota, raising three children. In his spare time, John enjoyed golfing in Florida and boating on Silver Lake.

He will be missed by his wife of 62 years, his son John Ness (Denise), his daughter Sarah Bennetts (James), his grandchildren Kasey Cook, Matthew Ness (Brandy), Mindy Hoover (Derek Kreidler), Amanda Saddler (Paul), and Eric Harris (Alicia), great grandchildren, and many friends and extended family.

Visitation is at noon, Thursday, May 19^th at O'Halloran & Murphy – Woodbury, 8700 Valley Creek Rd, followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. Private interment at Ft. Snelling.
