Inez Victoria (Jensen) McCarthy

Inez Victoria (Jensen) McCarthy, who was born on March 24, 1926, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2015, in her home in Redding CT.

She was the oldest of three sisters born to James Ernest Jensen and Marion I (Olsen) Jensen. Inez grew up in St. Paul, MN, and attended schools there including the University of Minnesota. She was employed by Minnesota Federal Savings and Loan. She represented the bank as Princess of the Snows in the 1946 St. Paul Winter Carnival.

On June 25,1949, Inez and Justin Milton McCarthy wed. His job at Wyeth Laboratories took them first to Brainerd, MN where they started a family. Then, in 1958, they settled in Radnor PA with their three children after Justin was transferred to Wyeth’s headquarters. They moved again in 2008 to Redding, CT, to be close to their fourth child, her family which included three grandchildren.

Above all Inez was a devoted wife, loving mother, and a caring grandmother. She loved reading, had broad interests, and enjoyed a wide variety of topics, especially travel novels as well as murder mysteries by Agatha Christie. She was an avid gardener and, although she did not play, she was an enthusiastic fan of professional golf. During major golf tournaments she was glued to the set.

Apart from being a homemaker, Inez served the Radnor community as President of the Friends of the Radnor Memorial Library, the League of Women Voters, and the Radnor High School Scholarship Fund. She also helped raise funds for Bryn Mawr Hospital by volunteering for the venerable Devon Horse Show and Country Fair’s hot dog stand.

Inez is the mother of four accomplished children, Patricia M. Graham (Thomas) of Bradenton, FL, Daniel V. McCarthy (Deborah) of Maplewood, NJ, John D. McCarthy (Janet) of Carlsbad, CA, and Anne M. Brosko (T. Shawn) of Wilton, CT. She is also survived by six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A funeral mass was celebrated at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Redding, CT on Saturday, March 21, 2015. She was interred at Calvary Cemetery in St Paul, MN in the McCarthy Family Plot in June of 2015.
