Edward Joseph “Ned”, “Pop” Burns
Born September 9, 1932, Ned passed away on May 22, 2022, at his home in St. Paul surrounded by his family. Ned was preceded in death by his beloved son Christopher. Ned is survived by his wife of 68 years and best friend Barbara; children Cindy (Steven Ablondi), Missy (Jeff) Cohen, Erin (Nick) Schneeman, Ned (Marylynne) and his second best friend and definite favorite, Mary.
Ned also leaves behind grandchildren Josh (Thy-Line), Ian, Nick (Lauren), Shannon (Megan), Caity, Ali (Adam), Maddie, Tommy, Lizzie, Kerry, Lindsey (Tommy), Kellyn, Grace (Nick), and Christopher; great-grandchildren Maya, Sebastian, Brennan, Joseph, Miki, Adeline, George, Henry, Emerson and Caroline.
Ned was born in New Jersey, went to St. Benedict’s Prep School and then Seton Hall University. He spent two years at Fort Bragg in North Carolina as a second lieutenant in the army, a position he truly loved. He married Bobby in 1954 and became an amazing salesman, which he continued right up until 2021 at the age of 89! He could sell anything!
Ned and his family spent many years at the Jersey Shore, where he taught innumerable friends and relatives how to waterski and go crabbing. He loved family trips to Williamsburg, Disney World, Bermuda, and all of the east coast battlefields. He was an avid golfer all his life, a skill he passed on to many of his children and grandchildren. Ned was also a skilled craftsman, working in his woodshop in the garage for hours on end.
Pop loved sweets, particularly anything Mom baked and New Jersey crumb buns. He also loved a good Dewar’s and soda at 5:00 with Mom, sitting out on the porch or in front of his fire; he loved that time together.
Pop had a good life. He will be missed terribly, but he was finally ready to “let the old man in” as he liked to say.
We will be having a private family service and burial at Resurrection in Shorewood, MN. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research
